CONVERGENT CYCLING:
The Convergence of Biotech & Bikes

What's biking got to do with biotech? Passion.

To be a biotech entrepreneur takes passion, and passion is what serious cycling is all about. Passion for the sport. Passion for the equipment. Passion for the training — and the feeling of victory (even when "victory" means not getting dropped from the peloton!)

Convergent Cycling unites Convergent Ventures founder Bill Robbins' passions for biotech and biking. Convergent Cycling supports select companies and organizations in the world of road riding and mountain biking, and fosters networking among fellow professionals from the worlds of biotech, venture investing, and biking, in the U.S., Israel, and beyond.

Convergent Cycling recommends the following cycling companies:

Stores:

  • Bike-Improve, located on the Westside of Los Angeles, was founded in 2004 by Nir Tal, a former racer and an active rider, to provide solutions for serious riders who don't maintain their own bikes because of lack of time. Bike-Improve caters to riders who prefer personal, high-quality service.

Parts:

  • Pilo CNC Bicycle Parts, an emerging manufacturer and global distributor of CNC-machined bicycle parts (derailleur hangers, chain ring bash guards, adapters), based near Tel Aviv, Israel.
Bike Frame Sets:
  • Segal Bikes, a manufacturer of ultra light, ultra-strong, magnesium-alloy road racing and mountain-bikes, headquartered in Haifa, Israel, and distributing globally.

Networking and Biking Information:

  • Bike Israel is an informational site and resource for people interested in biking in Israel.

  • Hazon ("Vision") is a non-profit organization for environmental education and sustainable food that holds cycling fundraisers in the U.S. and an annual group bike tour and fundraiser in Israel.

  • Oy Velo! is a decidedly tongue-in-cheek, yet informative web site for "Chosen" cyclists, run by attorney, Cat-1 bike racer and Segal Bikes U.S. distributor Trish Cohen.

  • Venture Cyclist is a blog by venture capitalist, software entrepreneur and cycling enthusiast Richard Dale, Partner at Sigma Partners, a Boston-based venture capital firm.
